Solar systems are low maintenance, not zero maintenance
Panels have no moving parts, so most of the "maintenance" a system needs is simple and infrequent. Monsoon season is the one stretch of the year worth paying closer attention to.
Before monsoon season
- Check that panel mounting bolts and clamps are still torqued correctly
- Clear any dust or debris build‑up from the panel surface and frame edges
- Inspect cable glands and junction boxes for signs of wear or loose seals
- Confirm earthing connections are intact and corrosion‑free
- Make sure roof drainage around the array isn't obstructed by the mounting structure
During heavy rain
Rain is generally good for panels — it rinses off accumulated dust more effectively than a dry wipe. The main things to watch for are pooling water around ground‑mounted inverters or batteries, and any exposed wiring that wasn't properly sealed at installation.
After the season
- Visually check panels for any cracked glass or discolouration
- Confirm inverter production figures are back to expected levels once skies clear
- Re‑tighten any structural fixings that may have loosened
Everyday cleaning
Outside of monsoon, dust is the main enemy of panel output in most of Pakistan. A simple water rinse every few weeks during dry months keeps production close to its rated potential — a noticeable dust layer can measurably reduce output.
